The latest blog marks a bit of a departure or at the very least a realigning of the purpose for this blog - I'm taking the pressure off my self to 'review' film, cameras and lenses becuase ultimately why I pick up a camera and point it at things in the first place is to express myself creatively but in recent months the process of shooting 'for' the blog rather than just shooting and blogging about it has started to feel a bit restrictive. I firmly believe that we bring our own stories to the images we look at and me waffling on about the idiosyncracies of this that or the other camera feature is definitely getting in the way (at least for me even if not for you) so I'll let the pictures do more of the talking and you can take it as a given that a: I flipping love the camera/lens combo I'm shooting with and b: the inherent qualities of the film should be apparent anyway!
I've been keen to shoot more colour film as for the most part I shoot Black and white almost all the time so I took my Nikon FE2 for a spin with a 50mm 1.4 lens and a roll of Kodak Ektar - the first frames on the roll of Ektar I shot were for a portrait project I've started (coming to a blog near you very soon) on the way home from the portrat shoot and having a few frames left on the roll I was on the hunt for a subject to use the rest of the roll up and found myself drawn to a series of abandoned buildings on my route home - I've driven past them a hundreds of times but never stopped to explore further, until now!
I am often drawn to abandoned places and spaces, the textures and patterns in decaying paintwork, the faded wood and rusted metal have an aestehtic quality all of their own which transcends the ordinary.
